A woman in Hollywood cares for injured hummingbirds in EVERY LITTLE THING.
Documentaries about birds are always popular. This film has had many award nominations. And the little things of the title are hummingbirds. One of the delights of the documentary is the close focus on the hummingbirds themselves.
Aitken, the director of this film, is Australian. She is known for several documentaries – from sharks to a documentary on The Wiggles, and a series on Australian cinema featuring David Stratton. This time, however, she has gone to California to meet with Terry Masear, an expert on hummingbirds who has played a large part in studying them, caring for them and introducing them to many bird lovers.
Masear has her own story and is a strong and pleasant personality on screen. Interviews with her are intercut with sequences of the birds themselves and their beautiful variety. While there is a pleasing human story and audiences will be glad to have met Terry Masear, Every Little Thing is a reminder that the little things of creation, especially small birds, have a life and talent of their own, contributing to the ecology, and are delight in their own right.
